Dear Friends and Families of College Athletes…

Your comfortable and convenient suite is waiting for you at The Neighborhood Hotel Little Italy! Room highlights feature a tea kettle to soothe post game throats, a welcoming sofa to watch game highlights and a deluxe shower to calm those nerves! Throughout your stay, you’ll feel refreshed and recharged for whatever tomorrow holds. Bonus: you’re less than a mile away from the Credit Union 1 ArenaUniversity of Illinois Chicago’s stadium! An easy walk and/or quick car ride will have you there in no time.

“Students and their families, adjunct professors, prospective students, visiting sports fans, etc. need a place to stay that’s super close to UIC but also a space that feels good. We knew that this building [the former National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame] was ideal for our fourth location because it’s interesting, historic and situated in a prime location. Little Italy is home to everything that gives the city soul— incredible people, restaurants and culture — all in close proximity to UIC,” says Jonathan Gordon, Founder and CEO of The Neighborhood Hotel. “Our hotel is clean, comfortable and filled with thoughtful details,” says Gordon.

Some of those touches include: full kitchens in every suite, Metric coffee grounds and Moccamaster brewers, throw blankets made by The Weaving Mill [a local company that also supports Envision Unlimited — a nonprofit that helps adults with developmental disabilities]. Unique details are also reflected in the Gibsons seasoning salt in every pantry, a guide to the neighborhood with tips from long time locals on each coffee table, even bocce balls to use on the courts next door.

Back to the ideal location: the goal is for guests to feel the spirit and warmth of a dynamic neighborhood that’s very close to public transportation and a short walk to UIC. During any time of transition – travel for work or pleasure, college drop offs/visits, sports games, etc. – the hotel team wants guests to feel comfortable in a place where the vibrance of the neighborhood is felt.

“We realize that many of our guests are staying purely for fun but some are here for reasons that require focus. We want to support everyone which is why we double down on the things that might seem small — details matter,” Gordon says.

Hungry after a day of sports? Little Italy is ideal for casually exploring — or eating — your way down Taylor Street. Some of the city’s most celebrated, long established restaurants are situated right there on Taylor! Conte di Savoia is your stop for a divine Italian sub, Mario’s for refreshing Italian Lemonade/Italian Ice, Tufano’s for garlic shells and broccoli, Pompei for outstanding pizza — the list goes on! In true Italian fashion, many of the restaurants [and parks] have space to host larger groups/events! Whether you’re planning a family gathering, corporate event, or simply a night out with friends, Little Italy offers an inviting ambiance and a delightful array of dining options that cater to all tastes and occasions.

Our buildings have stories ingrained in the walls (in a non-creepy way) - stories that are meant to be told and shared. The Neighborhood Little Italy was formerly the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame which honored the greatest Italian-American athletes, broadcasters, and sports workers to benefit athletics in the United States. Once again, we've fallen for a space outfitted with cool history + architecture. Grateful to all of the hard workers and supporters who are turning another NEIGHBORHOOD HOTEL vision/dream into reality!
